COLLADA is the 3D model file format used within KML. It is an open, broadly adopted, industry standard format.

COLLADA is an XML format. It's files are named "*.dae". A COLLADA "dae" file describes a 3D model in three dimensional numerics. For example, the following is a small fraction of SID.dae.

         <node id="lampada1" name="lampada1">
              1.000000 0.000000 0.000000 88.662871
              0.000000 1.000000 0.000000 32.792571
              0.000000 0.000000 1.000000 32.734150
              0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 1.000000
           <instance_node url="#lampada"/>

COLLADA is not intended for manipulation of its XML information by hand in a text editor, although some minor changes can be made.
